Toy Collectors Are Willing To Pay A Lot Of Money For The Right Toy

Toys are not only for children a lot grown-ups are collecting toys. Maybe you have some antique toys. The antiques market has been growing in a phenomenal rate since the internet started catching on, people can trade and present antiques on EBay and other auction sites.

In my life, I have no more than my share of toy collectors. Although I own a few collectible toys from my childhood, I definitely would not include myself among that group of people. They are interesting, but they are also a pretty strange crowd. It takes a certain kind of temperament to be an antique collector.

The first time I met a toy collector, it was shortly after I unloaded the box of my childhood toys from my parents house. I was pretty surprised when they found it in the first place. They had been doing some renovation and, for the first time in years, had gone into the storage room in the basement. My baseball cards were all there, as were some of my windup toy cars, my toy dolls from childhood, and many other things.

I didn’t really think about going to a toy appraiser for some time. Then one of my friends brought some friends of his – toy collectors – to look at my old collection. When I casually opened the box, they were amazed. They told me that there were some things in there that toy collectors would pay a fortune to get their hands on.

You see, toy collectors vary in their passions. Some of them like baseball cards, some of them like dolls, some of them like antique cars, and some of them like model airplanes. They do, however, all share one thing in common: they all love antiques. If it is old, chances are that you can find someone who will pay quite a bit of money for it as long as it is in good shape.

With this in mind, I sought out a toy price guide. Every group of toy collectors has their own manual, so between the baseball cards, the dolls, and the cars, I had to get three different books. What I saw amazed me. My collection was worth thousands of dollars! Although I do not want to sell off anything quite yet, it is nice to know that the option is there if I ever need the money.

Remember If you want to be a toy collector you need to have a fanatical passion for completing your collection. Toy collectors are driven to make everything match and fit perfectly, something which I don’t feel myself.

Popular Antique Toys

If children don’t have toys to play with, they will improvise with whatever is at hand because playing is a natural instinct. Children learn through play and it’s a healthy way of learning to socialize with other children. In the modern age of mass produced plastic toys, there is a growing interest in antique toys. Past toys were made of high quality and natural materials, such as wood and craftsmen fashioned them.

There are many companies that specialize in the sale of authentic antique toys or their replicas. Some toys and games have been around a lot longer than one might suppose. The Yo-Yo, for example, is thought to have been in existence thousands of years ago in Ancient Greece. The wooden toys were popular with children at the French court of the 1700s and were introduced into England in the following century.

Jacks have long been played on street corners, wherever children gather. Their evolution is also a long one and it’s thought that a form of the game was played 2,100 years ago with animal bones and pebbles. The jack was later made from wood, then rubber and pewter. Marbles too have been played for thousands of years. They were extremely popular in the 19th century and were made from clay, stone or glass.

Many children enjoy a game of Pick Up Sticks. The game dates from the 1700s when it was known as Jackstraws. In common with other antique toys, it’s gone in and out of fashion and is enjoying a surge of interest at the moment. Many parents are delighted to see toys from their own childhood back in the shops, so they can pass them on to the next generation.

Ball and bat games have been played for a long time in one form or another, leading to the eventual modern pastimes of baseball, cricket and rounders. There were early balls made from cloth or wood, before the processing of rubber. Knurr and Spell was one of the best selling antique toys, a ball and bat set that used a hard ball and a bat made from native pine.

The list of popular antique toys is long and from the days before television and computer games, these toys were the only sources of fun.
